  • To encourage the development of techniques and equipment specifically for microscope dentistry.
  • To enhance open communication amongst microscope dentists.

Origin

Some enthusiastic Dutch and Flemish dental operating microscope users met and felt that within Europe there was a lack of information, communication and education in the field of microscope dentistry.

The idea grew to found a European Society and offer individual dentists as well as national or regional organisations, interested in or devoted to Microscope Dentistry, the opportunity to meet. ESMD was founded in the Netherlands in 2007.

By organising congresses we intend to exchange experiences, discuss possibilities and enhance our skills.  Also the ESMD stimulates manufacturers to develop newer and more appropriate instruments for microscope dentistry.

Infinite devotion and time was spent by Dr. Hidde Doornbusch, the first ESMD President.  Unfortunately him was not allowed to live the first and successful accomplishment of ESMD, being the 2008 congress in Amsterdam.  Dr. Hidde Doornbusch passed away very sudden in October 2007.  The ESMD owes him its existence and will always honour and remember him as its founding President.
